Can I bring my family on board?
Yes, you can! It’s a great opportunity for young people and we encourage this. Keep in mind that we do not offer day care or baby-sitting.
I don’t have medical or marine skills, are there still roles where I can be helpful?
Yes! To put it into perspective, for every doctor we need approximately 7 other volunteers! It’s a lot of work to run a medical missions ship and we need your help. Whether that be assisting patients on and off the vessel, registering patients, setting up or setting down, handyman jobs or simply handing out a bible there are opportunities for everyone willing to serve.
But I don’t speak their language.. will I be able to communicate?
This isn’t something you need to worry about. On each outreach we will have several interpreters with us. You’ll even find that many people will want to practice their English with you.
What medical skills are most needed?
We have a high demand for ophthalmologists, optometrists, dentists and general physicians and our ship is particularly catered to these professions. Medical volunteers will need to provide copies of current medical licenses and certifications to MRG with their application as a requirement for authorization by the Mexican health authorities.
I’m interested in joining for multiple outreaches and staying long term. What do I do?
We do have opportunities for serving longer and coming on full-time. If this is you, we’d love to hear from you.
I would like to put a group together from my church. What are the next steps?
If you have a group you’d like to put together of 10-25 people from your church, or other organization please reach out to us and we’d love to host you. We can look at dates and a timeframe that fits with your team and the ships schedule.
I get seasick, will this disqualify me?
Fortunately, we will be docked and under most circumstances you will not feel much rocking or rolling, dependent on the weather.
What are the living arrangements on board?
We have couples' accommodation available, but otherwise most cabins are shared bunks. It’s community style living with a shared common and dining area.
Do I need to apply for a visa?
For US Citizens and most EU countries you do not need to apply for a visa. Please look up the Mexico visa regulations for your country of nationality. Our staff can help you with this.
