Hope & Health: Bahamas Outreach

We need general volunteers, doctors, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, individuals or groups.

Come spend a week (or more) in Freeport, Grand Bahamas with the M/V Pacific Hope crew and volunteers as we help underprivileged youth and communities in the surrounding islands. There will be medical, vision and dental clinics, evangelism and bible distribution, children’s ministry and community outreach as needed.

Sign up and come out to help! Aside from much needed medical professionals, we need a range of different skillsets. It takes many hands to run a ship ministry and if you are passionate about helping others, there’s a place for you!
Whether that be as a trained medical professional, or assisting patients on and off the vessel, registering patients, sterilizing medical equipment, reading to a group of children, handyman jobs or simply handing out a bible there are opportunities for everyone willing to serve. We welcome all to join us!

For more information, please reach out to info@marinereachglobal.org and read below for additional details on what is in store for the rest of the year and to come!

What You Need to Know

WHERE: Freeport is a Bahamian port city located on the southern coast of Grand Bahama Island in the northwest Bahamas. You will fly in and out of the city of Freeport, Bahamas. We will pick you up from the airport and take you about a 10min drive to the port where the MV Pacific Hope will be docked. After a team meet and greet and a safety briefing, teams will prepare for the scheduled outreach program.

HOW LONG?: Outreaches are typically ranged between 7-10 days from drop off and pick up.

WHEN: Outreaches will resume in Summer 2025. Plans are to start with a vision/eye glasses clinic and Bible distribution.

COST: $100 per night. This includes airport pick up/drop off, food and lodging. Please contact us if you are a student, local missionary/volunteer or would like to serve as crew for longer term.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY: Travel insurance, vaccinations and airfares are your responsibility. It is your responsibility to be up to date on all your shots and to have the travel insurance plan that suits you. We recommend when purchasing flights to use our travel agent. This will make travel smoother and allows the possibility to be booked together with other team members.

HOW DO I APPLY: Fill out our preliminary online application and our team will contact you. You can view and download the Preparing to Come guide here. Any questions or enquiries can be made to

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Yes, you can! It’s a great opportunity for young people and we encourage this. Keep in mind that we do not offer day care or baby-sitting.

Yes! To put it into perspective, for every doctor we need approximately 7 other volunteers! It’s a lot of work to run a medical missions ship and we need your help. Whether that be assisting patients on and off the vessel, registering patients, setting up or setting down, handyman jobs or simply handing out a bible there are opportunities for everyone willing to serve.

We have a high demand for ophthalmologists, optometrists, dentists and general physicians and our ship is particularly catered to these professions. Medical volunteers will need to provide copies of current medical licenses and certifications to MRG with their application as a requirement for authorization by the Mexican health authorities.

We do have opportunities for serving longer and coming on full-time. If this is you, we’d love to hear from you.

If you have a group you’d like to put together of 10-25 people from your church, or other organization please reach out to us and we’d love to host you. We can look at dates and a timeframe that fits with your team and the ships schedule.

Fortunately, we will be docked and under most circumstances you will not feel much rocking or rolling, dependent on the weather.

We have couples' accommodation available, but otherwise most cabins are shared bunks. It’s community style living with a shared common and dining area.

For US Citizens and most EU countries you do not need to apply for a visa. Please look up the Bahamas visa regulations for your country of nationality. Our staff can help you with this.

Are you ready to make a difference with us in the Bahamas?

As we commemorate the 4th of July—a day that honors our freedom and independence—let’s remember that true freedom isn’t just about what we’re free from, but what we’re free for.

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
— Galatians 5:13 (NIV)

This Independence Day, we invite you to put your freedom into action by serving those in need through Marine Reach.
